Oh by the way, folks, oldest entries are deleted to keep the total entry count at 666 because that number is sure to rile up somebody who sorely needs it. My more serious diary: |
Today we celebrate the birthday of Alfred North Whitehead, born in 1861. He was an important contributor to modern mathematical logic, and probably not nearly as well known as he perhaps oughta be. And now, folks, don'tcha just love it when friends and relatives e-mail you with fifteenth-generation re-forwardings of long lists of "facts" which they have never verified with reliable sources? Such as the QE-2 gets a gas mileage of six inches per gallon. (Cunard Lines fuel purchase records indicate 49 feet per gallon, which still sounds awful until you realize that the QE-2 weighs about as much as all the cars in a moderate size city.) And stale Amber Alert reports from a year and a half ago? Hey, there's about 175 million web sites (including my own Geocities site) that carry the Amber Alert ticker that's updated hourly. No need to waste e-mail bandwidth carrying re-forwards of bygone stuff. Oh well, we love our friends and relatives. I guess we gotta just let them indulge their fantasies. Happy Fantasy! OrneryPest |

Oh by the way, if you're one of those insufferable snooty folks who think
you've just gotta have a (gasp) banner (shudder) to link to me,
I suppose I'll let you download this one for the purpose, if you really insist.
