Today we celebrate the birthday of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, born in 1807. His nice poem about John Alden and Priscilla Mullins is, I'm sure, entirely true, in spite of what you're likely to hear from those stuffy historians who are hung up on mere facts. Speaking of history, I used to think it was terribly boring. I think it was because my high school history teacher was a tangle-toothed old hag who ate nails for breakfast and broke bricks with her face, and her idea of history was making us memorize the birthdays of dead people. But actually, history is kinda fun if you just sit back and try to reconcile presumed events with other presumed events and see that they both couldn't of happened. Somebody's fabricating their version, and you don't know who to believe. The Jews taken into captivity by Nebuchadnezzar? Well, Nebuchadnezzar bragged about it and the Bible repeats the boast, but did it happen? Where's the evidence? Christianity starting out as a Jewish messianic cult following a charismatic leader? Then how come the early Christian writers don't seem to know much about Palestine or Judaism? And why don't we celebrate any of the Jewish holidays? Oh well, it's Wednesday, the longest day of the week, the only day that's nine letters long. Plenty of time to wonder why nothing fits together. Happy Wednesday! OrneryPest |

Oh by the way, if you're one of those insufferable snooty folks who think
you've just gotta have a (gasp) banner (shudder) to link to me,
I suppose I'll let you download this one for the purpose, if you really insist.
