Today we celebrate the birthday of Hermann Hesse, born in 1877. Nobel Prize winning author, and somewhat of a mystic guru amongst the woo-woo crowd.

And now, folks, here's my pet peeve of the week. Wood that's merrily festooned with huge yucky-looking tattoos of the company's emblem, like "BROKENBOARD LUMBER COMPANY, HAIRY CRACK, IDAHO" or something like that. You've gotta sandpaper it for hours to get the stuff off. Believe me, it'll show through any color of stain you can find, and even through some colors of paint.

But anyhow, we had just the right amouint of rain last night. An hour or so of light showers. Today's quests will include some lawn mowing and garden picking and a trip to False Value Hardware for some nails.
