Oh by the way, folks, My more serious diary: |
Today we celebrate the birthday of Charles Etienne Louis Camus, born in 1699. He was a mathematician and cartographer, and his careful measurements of the earth led to our modern realization that the earth is not perfectly spherical, but is more like an oblate spheroid. In fact, the earth is not even a perfect oblate spheroid. In the northern hemisphere the pole is slightly sunken and the mid-latitudes are slightly bulged. In the southern hemisphere the pole is slightly bulged and the mid-latitudes are slightly sunken. The sensationalist popular press refers to this as the Pear Shaped Earth, a rather wild exaggeration. Well anyhow, yesterday morning was raining, so I found a coupla indoor activities, as follows: ![]() The bike that doesn't go anywhere.
Yes, folks, the cellaphone camera works and sends the pictures to my e-mail! YAY!! The afternoon cleared off nicely and I did a bit of lawn mowing, after replacing Morris the Mower's worn out left-side drive cog. Today looks like it's gonna be nice and clear. Happy Tuesday! OrneryPest |
