Oh by the way, folks, My more serious diary: |
Today we celebrate the birthday of Georg Friedrich Bernhard Riemann, born in 1826. He was a mathematician who made contributions in the field of geometry, proving that there's lots more to it than what Euclid ever proved. Like, for instance, how do you measure curvature of a space of more than two dimensions? Curved two-dimensional space is easy. It's like the surface of a sphere. But how about a curved four-dimensional space where one of the dimensions isn't even orthogonal to the other three? Such as our own universe, for instance, where the time dimension is not orthogonal to the space dimensions, and there might even be more dimensions than what we know about, and the whole shebang is all twisted up. It's even weirder than anything on Star Trek, once you start actually trying to understand it. But anyhow, it rained a bit yesterday. Then in the evening we went to the presentation at the Calvert Marine Museum. It was great. Solomons has changed drastically since Isaac Solomon bought the place back in ancient times and then went bankrupt and had to sell everything. Happy Thursday! OrneryPest |

Oh by the way, if you're one of those insufferable snooty folks who think
you've just gotta have a (gasp) banner (shudder) to link to me,
I suppose I'll let you download this one for the purpose, if you really insist.
