Oh by the way, folks, My more serious diary: |
Today we wish a fond Happy Birthday to Stephen King, born in 1947. He writes such nice pleasant little stories. And now here's something I don't understand. There's this add for a learn-a-foreign-language-quick service that portrays a hard-working farm boy who's got the hots for a famous Italian supermodel, and he's got only one chance to impress her, so he's gotta sign up for a crash course in Italian. Three major credibility gaps. First, the language barrier, which is also a culture barrier that's more than what can be overcome by merely learning the language. Second, the fundamental lifestyle difference. Third, her intellectual capability is probably several orders of magnitude below his, so it's hard to imagine why he'd he want a dim-witted clothes-horse, even if she's rich. Oh well, they gotta advertize somehow, but I ain't buying it. Now that I've finished Lucretius I'm starting Epictetus, who supposedly was a great inspiration to James Stockdale during his little jaunt as a Prisoner Of War in Vietnam. Lucretius is on the Catholic church's list of banned books, but Epictetus seems not to have upset them so bad for some reason. So I'll probably spend the day alternating bike rides with chapters of Epictetus. Happy Monday! OrneryPest |

Oh by the way, if you're one of those insufferable snooty folks who think
you've just gotta have a (gasp) banner (shudder) to link to me,
I suppose I'll let you download this one for the purpose, if you really insist.
