Oh by the way, folks, My more serious diary: |
Today we celebrate a feast day in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi. It looks like we're scheduled to use green altar covers. We've got one of those mass-produced figurines of Saint Francis of Assisi in our church's columbarium, portrayed, as is traditional, with several birds perched on him. A fine old legend says that he went around preaching such boring sermons that nobody would listen to him, so he preached to birds instead. Hey, why not? Our feathered brethren and sistren could use some of that salvation, too, I suppose! The controversy over Blasphemy Day continues. The supporters say that freedom to criticize religion is an important part of freedom of speech, and setting aside a day to make fun of religion is a good way to emphasize it. The opponents say that, while serious criticism of religion is good, ridiculing it is juvenile and counterproductive. I can see good sense in both points of view, and I'll take my stand with the supporters. There's no way that we can ever use rational thought to change the minds of those who are incapable of rational thought, so let's go ahead and have some fun with them, juvenile or whatever. And so today, after our obligatory hour of trying to boss God around by reciting mystic incantations at our own belly buttons, it's gonna be a great day. Sunshine, temp in the low 70's, hey, who could wish for better! Happy Sunday! OrneryPest |

Oh by the way, if you're one of those insufferable snooty folks who think
you've just gotta have a (gasp) banner (shudder) to link to me,
I suppose I'll let you download this one for the purpose, if you really insist.
