Today we celebrate the birthday of Gertrude Ederle, born in 1906. She swam the English Channel back in the days when everybody believed that women are too weak to ever do anything athletic. Not only that, but she set a new world record for the English Channel Swim.

So let that be a lesson for all of us boys and girls. Never assume anything's impossible! Somebody'll do it and prove you're wrong.

Our church has done three funerals in one week! (The third one is gonna be today.) MrsPest is the Chief Boss Organizer for funeral luncheons (commonly known as Dead Spreads) so she's about had it for the week. Not only that, but yesterday was her birthday so we had to wear her out celebrating.

And day before yesterday was our assistant preacher's birthday, so we had to wear him out celebrating. So there's two people in the world for whom bedtime this evening is gonna look awful good.

Meanwhile, it looks like it's gonna be a great day with a bit of rain starting about mid-afternoon. Good! I'll take some! It'll be proof of whether my new stepping stones are working.
