Oh by the way, folks, My more serious diary: |
Today we celebrate the birthday of John Keats, born in 1795. He was a poet. Here's a story my father used to tell. When he was in the army, his unit had a cultural program. One day the sergeant called the unit together and announced, "This evening's cultural presentation is about Keats. I bet most o' youse guys don't even know what a Keat is." And today is Halloween, and the latest wrinkle is that a buncha witches have been going around casting spells on Halloween candy so as to cause children who eat their goodies to become possessed by demons. Anybody here who actually believes that? I'd worry more about obesity and tooth decay than I would about demons. So this evening I think we're just gonna shut off the lights and let the kiddies go begging at other folks's places. We'd rather see them spend the evening at private parties anyhow. It's lots safer. Besides, the Wondrous Weather Website is predicting pouring-down rain for this evening. Happy Halloween! OrneryPest |

Oh by the way, if you're one of those insufferable snooty folks who think
you've just gotta have a (gasp) banner (shudder) to link to me,
I suppose I'll let you download this one for the purpose, if you really insist.
