Oh by the way, folks, My more serious diary: |
Today we celebrate the birthday of Johann Christoph Denner, born in 1655. He was a musical instrument manufacturer, and is generally credited with the invention of the clarinet. And now, folks, let me tell you all about the clarinet. Firstly, the keys for the sharps and flats are not consistently between the keys they're the sharps and flats of, they're sorta all over the place. Secondly, the register key does more than an octave interval. So if you wanna play your song in a different octave you don't just move over and keep playing like on a piano, instead, the fingering is completely different. Now this means that one register is more notes than you've got fingers for, so there's a whole buncha keys for your little fingers, which are your smallest and weakest, and also the busiest. No wonder clarinet players are sorta dotty. Now, my favorite clarinet song is the Clarinet Polka, the equivalent of Chopsticks on a piano. Very easy to play, requires no virtuosity whatsoever, so you can play it real fast and impress the heck out of everybody even if you're a no-talent hack. Well anyhow, it rained most of the day yesterday, and I didn't see the tron undergrounders doing anything. Today I think it's gonna quit raining. Happy Wednesday! OrneryPest |
