All very well and good (you will excuse pun please?) but I don't get that her soul was parched by sin and suffering. Seems to me she was suffering from the obliquy heaped upon her by her neighbors, from her low status as a Samaritan (remember other Samaritan in the Bible). He sounded pretty self-righteous to me and she sounded grateful that anyone of standing would speak to her.
But it makes a good story. I think Jesus was conflated from several speakers of the time, all real people, which is why his sayings seem to be oddly ill-sorted at times. imho
