Our family were Quakers, originally. We fled England and English persecution, only to come to the colonies to find that religious bigotry was here, as well. My ancestors then returned to England, thinking perhaps they could live quietly, unobserved, but the 18th century version of MI-5 drove them back across the pond. And here we are. I remember quiet Quaker services, very moving and powerful. The themes of generosity and service remain with me still.
