Today we celebrate the birthday of Maurice Ravel, born in 1875. He was a music composer whose music was, for the most part, somewhere between mediocre and lackluster, but he reckoned himself quite the virtuoso. Then he wrote "Bolero" which he considered a trivial piece unworthy of his true talents, but it proved to be his finest and most popular composition.

So there you have it, folks! Think you're really great stuff? You're probably not. Think you're not much? You're probably better than you realize.

Yesterday's storm sorta fizzled. No snow. A fair amount of rain, moderate wind, but nothing to overstress the emergency services.

I did, however, observe a few small tree branches ripped down, so I'll go out and deal with them today. Most of them are probably small enough to become compost instead of firewood.

But anyhow, it looks like nothing's gonna happen today, so there'll be no problem chopping up branches.

Happy Chopping!
