Today we celebrate the birthday of Ben Jonson, born in 1572. He was an English playwright and poet, whose reputation ranks alongside Shakespeare. He has occasionally been credited with writing some or all of Shakespeare's plays, but evidence for this attribution is hopelessly thin.

Yesterday it rained an awful lot. Today I suppose it might quit raining if we're lucky. If it does, I suppose it's about time to mow down the used greenery from the daffodils and other early spring bulb flowers that have quit blooming.

And oh by the way, if you've got groundhogs, don't bother to ask a gun owner how to get rid of them. He'll probably waste hours merrily regaling you about the relative merits of various sorts of guns.

Unfortunately, guns are utterly useless for critter control. You've gotta be there, gun at the ready, whenever the critter shows up. That means you've gotta patrol your property 24-7 and have no time to get a life. Even then you're not gonna get 'em all.

Happy Patrolling!
